How do I add a tax (GST, city tax, service charge)?
Short answer
Open Property Setup > Financial Settings > Tax, click New Tax, type the Tax Name, choose the Tax Type and Save. The tax has no rate yet; give it one in Tax Configuration.
Steps
- Open the Tax card (page title Tax Master).
- Click New Tax.
- Type Tax Name (printed on the folio).
- In the section Tax type choose: Occupancy Tax for room rent or Other Charges Tax for extra charges.
- Under How it applies, for occupancy tax only, tick Per Day Tax (fixed amount every night), Per Stay Tax (fixed amount once) or Range Tax (rate depends on the nightly rent band). Range Tax is visible only when Range Tax is on in Feature Setting. Per Day and Per Stay exclude each other.
- Click Save.
Check the result
Tax added successfully. The tax is in the list. A new property starts with City Tax, State Tax (occupancy) and Sales Tax (other charges) at 0%.
Common problems
- The tax does not appear on bookings: it also needs a rate in Tax Configuration and must be attached to the room type (Tax Name in Room Type) or to the other charge.
- Range options missing: turn on Range Tax in Feature Setting.
- Messages: Property configuration messages.
