Short answer

Open Tax Configuration, click Create Tax Configuration, choose Tax Applicable From, the Tax Name and the Rate, click Add, then Save. The earliest start date is the PMS date for the first rate of a tax, and tomorrow for a change to a tax that already has a rate.

Steps

  1. Create the tax name first (add a tax).
  2. Open Property Setup > Financial Settings > Tax Configuration.
  3. Click Create Tax Configuration (dialog Add Tax Configuration).
  4. Pick Tax Applicable From in the calendar (the PMS date or later for the first rate of a tax; PMS date + 1 or later when the tax already has a rate).
  5. Choose the tax type, then the Tax Name. The rate suffix becomes % or the currency symbol.
  6. Type the Rate. For a slab tax also fill Start Range and End Range (End greater than Start). To stop the tax after some nights tick Exempt After Days and type the nights.
  7. Click Add; each row appears under Ranges to save. Repeat for more rows, then click Save. If a range clashes with an existing one the screen marks it in red.

Check the result

The row shows in the list with From Date and To Date - (open). The previous rate is closed the day before. Orange marker = Future Tax, blue = Present Tax.

Common problems

  • You cannot change an existing rate starting today: the system offers tomorrow at the earliest, so plan rate changes a day ahead. Only the first rate of a tax can start on the PMS date.
  • Tax not charged: check the tax is attached to the room type or the other charge.
  • Past stays keep the rate valid on each night.
  • Messages: Property configuration messages.
