How do I mute a chat or set Do not disturb?

Short answer

Open the chat and click the bell icon in its header, choose how long. For all chats, click the status dot at the top of the chat list and choose Do not disturb.

Steps

1. Open the conversation and click the bell icon (Mute notifications).
2. Choose Mute for 1 hour, Mute for 8 hours, Mute for 24 hours or Mute until I turn it on.
3. To mute everything: click the round dot at the top of the list and choose Do not disturb.
4. To switch back: click the bell-off icon and choose Unmute, or choose Online in the status menu.

Check the result

The bell icon shows muted; the list shows a grey number and there is no pop-up, sound or red number on the chat button. Messages still arrive and are kept.
